Abid Ali, who was surprisingly dropped after being inducted into the World Cup squad, has managed to regroup.
Pakistan's Chief Selector and Head Coach Misbah-ul-Haq has announced a 16-member squad for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Mohammad Hafeez and Hassan Ali, who were in the World Cup squad, failed to make it to the team while Abid Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Usman Shinwari, Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Rizwan returned.

This is the first time Misbah-ul-Haq has been selected as the Chief Selector national cricket team.

At a press conference in Lahore on Saturday, Misbah-ul-Haq explained that Hassan Ali was not included in the team due to a back injury.

Misbah says Iftikhar Ahmed's good performance in domestic cricket and off-spin bowling led to his joining the team
It is to be noted that the Pakistan Cricket Board did not give Muhammad Hafeez a central contract this year. Later, he was not even included in the national team's camp, which has questioned his future.

Misbah-ul-Haq, however, said that the series is giving players who have not had a consistent chance before. He said, 'No one has closed the door, the door is still open.'

Abid Ali, who was surprisingly dropped after being inducted into the World Cup squad, has managed to regroup.

Responding to a question regarding Iftikhar Ahmed's participation, Misbah said that Iftikhar Ahmed's good performance in domestic cricket and off-spin bowling was due to his joining the team.

"Earlier, Iftikhar's place in the team could not be made because we had players like Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik in their role," he said.

Iftikhar Ahmed has represented Pakistan in one Test One Twenty20 and Two One Day International matches so far, but he last played against England in Sharjah four years ago in 2015.

It has also been decided to retain the proud Zaman, who did not perform well in the World Cup. Misbah says no one can be ignored on the basis of a ten-match form. He said, "At that time, his (proud) time is quite good."

The Pakistan ODI team consists of 16 players: Sarfraz Ahmed (Captain) Imam-ul-Haq, Abid Ali, Fakhr Zaman, Prime Minister, Harris Sohail, Iftikhar Ahmed, Asif Ali, Emad Wasim, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Nawaz, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Amir, Usman Shinwari and Mohammad Hasanin.

The three ODIs between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be played in Karachi on September 27, September 29 and October 2, followed by the matches of the T20 series in Lahore on October 5 and 9.

The Pakistan team for the T20 series will be announced during the ODI series.
